Have you ever seen one of these spiky, bright coloured fruits at your grocery store? They’re originally from South Africa and are now produced mainly in Australia and New Zealand and are also known as Kiwano’s, because of their similarity to kiwi fruit. They can actually be kept in room temperature for over 2 months, before they go bad.


These crazy looking fruits are full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They’re a rich source of Vitamin E, which promotes healthy skin, heart, muscles, nerves and red blood cells, as well as helping to counteract harmful free radicals. The Vitamin A that’s present promotes eye and skin health. Horned Melons contain Vitamin C, fibre, iron and are more than 80% water. The high content of Vitamin C is a great compliment to the Zinc and they help in wound healing and producing protein.

All you have to do is slice the melon, either vertically or horizontally and scoop out the green flesh. Choose one that is ripe, with an orange rind. They taste like a combination of cucumber, kiwi and banana!
